Turtle Town Maui Map

Find your starting point for Turtle Town snorkeling on Maui’s Makena coast, south of Wailea. Maluaka Beach is a popular shore-access point; a guided trip may meet elsewhere along the coast or depart by boat from Kihei or Maalaea.

There is no single entrance or ticket office. Choose a named beach, park or harbor below, then use current access signs or your operator’s check-in instructions for the final approach.

Access & departures

Four places to start. One location per map view.

Beach & shore access

Maluaka Beach

A starting point for planning a beach visit and condition-dependent shore snorkeling along the Makena coast.

This is a general beach search. Follow public-access signs for parking; the map does not identify a safe water entry.

Makena coastal access

Makena Landing Park

A coastal recreation area in Makena. Use this place to orient yourself along the coast.

For a booked trip, use your operator’s exact authorized meeting point. A park search is not confirmation of a tour launch or check-in location.

Small-boat departures

Kihei Boat Ramp

A departure area for some small-boat snorkeling trips. It is separate from the Makena shore-access points.

Use this only if your booking names Kihei Boat Ramp. Confirm the exact check-in point, parking instructions and arrival time with your operator.

Harbor departures

Maalaea Harbor

A departure harbor for many larger snorkeling boats. The harbor is a meeting area, not the Turtle Town reef.

Confirm your vessel, slip, check-in desk and parking instructions. A general harbor search will not identify your exact boarding point.

Maluaka Beach

Start here when planning a shore visit. The beach has northern and southern public approaches, so check which access your directions use before setting out. A pin in the center of the beach does not identify the right place to leave your car.

Use signed public parking and established beach paths. Church, resort and residential spaces are not overflow parking. If the public area is full or a path is closed, choose another plan instead of stopping on private property or blocking access.

The southern end is commonly associated with reef snorkeling, but the closest approach is not automatically the right water entry. Assess the shorebreak, visibility and return route when you arrive. The site’s maintainer publishes beach access and parking information.

Makena Landing

Use this location to orient yourself around the Makena shoreline. For a kayak, paddleboard or guided activity, follow the exact meeting point sent for your booking rather than assuming everyone meets inside the park.

The park’s parking, restrooms and lawn are privately owned but available for public recreation. The landowner lists commercial activity among prohibited uses within that park parcel and distinguishes it from neighboring shoreline access. Check the current park information and follow posted signs.

A general park pin does not confirm a tour’s staging area or whether a particular water entry suits your ability. Ask the operator where to park, where to meet and when to arrive.

Boat departures

Your boat’s departure point can be some distance from the reef. Match the map location to the product you booked before starting the drive.

Kihei Small Boat Ramp

Some compact Molokini and South Maui trips depart from this ramp in south Kihei. Use it only when your booking specifies a Kihei departure. Confirm the actual check-in location, parking instructions and arrival time with the operator.

The state boating division lists car and trailer parking, ramps, docks, restrooms and a shower. Those facilities do not identify your boat’s meeting position, and a general place search may differ from the address on your voucher.

Maalaea Harbor

Many larger snorkeling vessels leave from Maalaea. Select the harbor for orientation, then navigate to the vessel’s stated slip or loading dock. Check-in may be at a different point from the harbor entrance or administration office.

Keep the vessel name, boarding location, parking instructions and check-in time together. Allow time to walk from your car. The official harbor information is a useful reference, while your operator provides the trip-specific directions.

Getting there

From Wailea or Kihei

For a beach visit, continue south toward Makena and follow the named public access. If your boat leaves from Kihei, go to its confirmed check-in point instead of continuing to the snorkeling destination.

From the airport or West Maui

Set your destination before departure: Maluaka for a shore visit, your confirmed Makena meeting point for a guided activity, or the correct boat departure. Allow for traffic, parking and the final walk rather than relying on a fixed driving time.

Meeting in Wailea

Some guided or private experiences use a Wailea meeting point. There is no universal tour pin for that area. Use the operator’s exact business, beach or meeting-location link.

Before entering the water

A useful map gets you to the area; it cannot assess the ocean for you. Check local warnings, look at the entry and exit, and stay out when the conditions exceed your experience. Go with a buddy and keep enough energy for the return swim. Avoid murky water and do not follow an offshore coordinate as if it were a walking route.

Turtles move through the reef, so this map does not identify wildlife-sighting spots. NOAA recommends staying at least 10 feet, or 3 meters, from sea turtles on land and in the water. Never touch, chase or feed them; give an approaching turtle room to pass.

FAQ

Where is Turtle Town Maui?

The name commonly refers to snorkeling reefs along the Makena coast in South Maui, with Maluaka Beach a popular shore-access point. Guided trips may visit other nearby reefs.

What should I enter in Google Maps?

For a shore visit, start with Maluaka Beach. For a booked experience, use the operator’s exact meeting or departure point. The map’s named locations help with orientation.

Is there one official address?

No single visitor entrance serves the whole reef area. Navigate to a named public access or your confirmed tour meeting point rather than a generic Turtle Town result.

Should I use the north or south end of Maluaka?

Check the public approach, parking signs and any meeting instructions. The southern end is commonly associated with snorkeling, but choose your water entry only after assessing conditions on arrival.

Is Makena Landing the meeting point for every kayak tour?

No. Use the location supplied for the exact trip. A reference to Makena or Turtle Town in a tour title does not establish a meeting point inside the park.

Do boats leave from Kihei or Maalaea?

Both have departures, depending on the operator and product. Check your booking for the named ramp or harbor and the exact check-in location.

Is the harbor pin enough to find my boat?

Usually you also need the vessel name, slip or loading dock, parking instructions and check-in time. A general harbor pin is for orientation.

Is Maluaka Beach the same as Big Beach?

No. Maluaka Beach and Big Beach at Makena State Park are different destinations. Check the place name before you follow the route.

Does the map show where turtles are?

No. It shows named access and departure locations. Wildlife moves, sightings are not guaranteed, and a map pin cannot identify a safe swimming route.

Can I use the page without loading Google Maps?

Yes. The location descriptions and direct map links remain available. Opening an external map link or loading the interactive map connects to Google Maps.
